Inside your pull switch where the cord is connected to there is a little spring and it is broken, you can't do anything but replace the whole pull switch i'm afraid, needs a sparky or if you are profitiant then a new one will cost about a fiver and easy to replace with the power off.

LMAO that's too funny!
Taking into account you say the bulb is good:
Do you notice any other outlets or lights not working? This is a good indication it's a fuse or breaker.
Check the fuse or circuit breaker associated with the light.
However now that the cord is elongated, does the switch still work (does it still click as it did before)? If not, the switch may need to be replaced.
Good luck

Take out the bulb, put your finger in the socket and pull the cord, if you hit the ceiling you will know that your getting power to the socket " if no power check the fuse " if the fuse is OK buy a candle !

STOP PULLING THE CORD!! Check to see if the bulb has blown by removing it and gently shakind it. If it sounds like there is thisngs rattling around in there then replace it with a new one. If it doen't make this sound, check your fuse box as one of the fuses may have tripped, in this case consult an online diy site to check the type of fuse box you have and how to replace the fuse.

You need a new pull switch. Remember if doing the job yourself switch mains off first before attempting repairs

Change the bulb?
I didn't say the bulb had blood on it, I'm saying it might have blown.
