Yes. There was a kidnapping in Missouri a few years ago by someone posing as a home health nurse. Its a shocking story. The baby was kidnapped out of his own home. I know them personally.

Most volunteer-type services are now requiring background checks to protect themselves from lawsuit. After all, if a hospice volunteer touched a dying child inapporpriately, the hospice would quickly lose funding.

I've worked for not-for-profits before and the ones I worked at all required fingerprinting and background checks. And of course, they are only really looking for things that make them liable as a company. So if there's something in the check, it's probably not going to be too big a deal, unless the volunteer robbed a bank at gun point or is a pedophile.

Yes, I am a hospice volunteer and a background check is required for the safety of the patients.

I would hope so. Too many sickos running around. Unfortunately, this creates an inconvenience for those who genuinely want to help. But putting at-risk people in the company of sexual predators in un-acceptable. What a world we live in.

If required or not you still have an obligation to check something like that out,for a loved one nothing is ever to much!!!!!!!
