I think so. Small progress, but progress nonetheless.

Is there a definition you would like to propose ruth, so as to further our efforts at building consensus?

It's your definition, you can push whatever you like.

robocop - you might want to crack a real history book instead of only listening to Rush.

I think it's progress. My thoughts on it are this - if you're a big loser who hates people of a certain race for no reason, super. Have fun with that. Just keep it to yourself. Because nobody else wants you to sell your crazy here.

I don't really get Ruth's point here either. Tolerance isn't good? Because it's too PC? I'd rather the PC stuff than listen to people using racially derived crap. But perhaps others would prefer the hatred.

Aztec, I've met about an equal number of racist people from each party. Although most of them are getting more quiet about it.

when you ask this question try to remember that David Duke is a Democrat Straum Thurman was a staunch opponent of Integration and for the most part Democrats have been in power in local state and federal offices in the south before during and after the civil rights movement meaning that they were the main opposition to civil rights as a whole and equalization/integration.
the Democratic party did not change views on this until JFK and Bobby Kennedy. and the change did not happen over night. in fact if you were to have a private conversation with many older Democrats you would probably find that their personal views have changed far less than those of their party as a whole.

The history books are correct. It was the democratic party that fought against civil rights, and Robert Byrd was/is the leader of the most notorious racist group known to man, the KKK. History proves this. The so called "openly racist" are mainly the accusers of others.

I believe there are many racist that still exist in our country today. To say they are republicans make me wonder. Seems to me that the Great Robert Byrd ( democratic Senator) has some racist tendency. Who was calling who uncle Tom, when a young American African was running for office and happened himself to be republican. There is plenty of hate to go around for all. It would be time better spent to work together then throwing hate because of a political persuasion.

Actually the most racist people I've ever met in my life were Democrats.

The Republican Party was founded to end slavery, and a higher percentage of Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1965 than did Democrats.

Yes, that's right. We're racist. That's why we have had TWO blacks in Cabinet positions in this administration - highest positions ever held by black Americans. And one is a woman to boot - d'oh! That kinda negates your idiotic rants about how Republicans are racist and sexist. Oh, wait - I forgot - they don't count because they're Republican blacks.

Have some more Kool-Aid.

You might want to remember that it was the Republicans that got the civil rights legislation passed in the 1960's...the Democrats opposed it.

Edit: Actually, Sir, I have read several hundred history books... and you are in error.

Well said Uno

I am Hispanic, and i can tell you one thing I have faced more racism from Democrats than I ever did from Republicans.

All my life all i heard was "Your Mexican (I am not by the way, 1/2 Salvadorian 1/2 Colombian) you need us to help you." "You cant get in to college on your own, let us help you with that." "Oh you speak English soo well." And these were liberals!?!?

No Conservative ever called me stupid for having my own brain, no republican ever said i couldn't do things for my self. only people I ever encountered who said that were Liberals.

Please do not tell me Republican are more racist than Democrats because that's Bunk.

Democrats like to cover their racism with "Caring". well that kind of "caring" can kiss my Hispanic butt. I am not a stupid person because of my race, I am not ignorant because of my blood lines, I am my own person who earned his own way in life for better or worse.

So take that cock and bull attitude about Repubs and keep it to your self please.

Learn to understand name calling is not the only form of racism in the world. being treated like your second class, incapable of rational thought and useless because of your blood is far far worse.

ADD ON: You should open a few books your self, and not just the ones sent out by people like Peta and the DNC.

hey robocop: seems someone is a historical revisionist....I too have been led to believe it was the democratic party that exalted institutionalized racism during that era

Considering the Democrat party is the party of the Confederacy, slavery, KKK, segregation and Jim Crow laws, that's a vile accusation.

I'd wager far more Democrats are racist than Republicans.
