I just picked up my first prescription for the Pill yesterday. I tried to order 3 packs so I wouldn't have to go in every month but they said I could only get one pack at a time. Whats the shortest number of days I have to wait to get my prescription filled again (theres 28 days of pills in the pack)? Also, in a few months I will be on vacation when my pack runs out. What should I do then?

You should be able to get another refill 10 days before the next one do. Tell your doctor that your going out of town for a few days and he/she may increase the number of pills to cover you on your trip.

You can order usually every 3 weeks (so you have a week's buffer). As for the vacation, explain this to the pharmacist. If they don't want to fill the Rx early (and some won't because of paperwork hassles), call your doc and explain it. They will be able to either give you a sample pack for that period of time or they should be able to call in a separate Rx for that one month.

FYI, most (if not all) HMO's are butts. They will only pay for 30 days' supply of medicine at a time, hence the reason why you can only get 1 month's pills at a time.

I was able to get multiple packs at a time but that was a few years ago. It may also have to do with your clinic's policies. Just go in a week or two before you need a new one and explain your predicament to your doctor about the vacation timing.

I always refill it when I am on my cycle. My pharmacy is pretty quick and if I refill in the morning, I pick it up on my way home from work.

About on vacation, refill before you go. I am sure they won't say anything. you don't have to wait a whole 28 days until the meds are complete out. :)
