When the DVD rom is put in and pc restarted it doesnt install it. Any help is important so plz help. Thanks in advanced.

Has s/he looked at the position of the jumper on the rear of the drive?
If the DVD-RW drive is being attached to the same cable as the hard drive, the DVD-RW needs to be set as a slave drive.
If possible, it would be better to have the DVD-RW drive on a separate cable, by itself. The jumper would then need to be set so that the DVD-RW is a master.

DVD r/w don't need drivers.Its more or less plug an play.Now if you want to burn a disk you'll need Nero and for movies you'll need 1Click DVD Copy 5
Are you saying xp is not recognizing the DVD player.

change the boot priority to CD /DVD drive
