I am 30 weeks pregnant and my husband has gone away for a week. The kitty litter is stinky and needs to be changed really badly. Is there any way I can change it myself without worrying about hurting the baby?

If you do not have someone to clean it for you, start new. Toxoplasmosis does not become infectious until it has been sitting for a day, if there is even the parasite present. Clean the litter box with gloves daily. I was a veterinary technician the whole time I was pregnant. I did not test positive for the toxoplasmosis titer and had no ill effects.

While cats are often thought of as a culprit, please make sure you are washing all your fruits and vegetables, as well as cooking your meat thoroughly. Any contact with dirt, sand, or unwashed fresh foods needs to be followed up by a food hand washing.

Wear a mask and gloves, double wrap the waste and immediately take it out to the trash (outside). I am 38 weeks along and my husband has emptied the boxes but he has trouble walking so I take out the waste--I also wear gloves and a mask. Baby is fine and healthy. You and baby will be fine if you do that and just wash your hands past your wrists. Good luck.

If you've had cats for many years, you have probably already been exposed to toxoplasmosis.
There are many single moms out there that have cleaned ou their cat box while pregnant.... wear a mask (wrap a towel around your mouth and nose), gloves if you have them.... and wash your hands really well after!!!

Wear a mask or a bandana around your mouth, if you can't do either ask a friend don't do it and breath the fumes you can and will hurt your baby by breathing it.

take it outside...wear a mask and gloves to avoid the dust, which you need to avoid...dump into grocery sack and discard into trash can outside....wash litterbox outside also .....wash hands thoroughly afterwards or take a shower if it was really dusty as you dumped it

I wouldn't chance it. Can maybe a neighbor or friend come over and change it for you? It would be better for them to help you then you do it yourself.
