is this legend a take off on beowulf or is it separate.?

can anyone tell me more info on an ancient legend about two warriors who after all the rest of their army was killed went up the mountain to face the monster knowing they too would most likely die but they were the only thing standing between their people and total destruction.

sounds like part of the Epic of Gilgamesh. It is an anciend Mesopatamian tale that predated Beowulf by a couple thousand years.
