There is a saying, "Plan early, plan twice". If you plan things out too far in advance you may find that your assumptions were incorrect. For example, let's say you get the syllabus for a college course and it says a paper is due a month into the course. So you start working on it immediately and get it done, only to find out later on that the paper you already wrote doesn't really match the assignment. There were more details about what you needed to do that your professor gave you in class than what was on the syllabus. Now, not only do you still have to write the paper but you wasted all that time writing it the first time.
