Hi,
I've owned a metal detector, they are useful, but you can RENT ONE for a few dollars.
That's the way I'd go.
They will show you how to use it at the rental shop.
Very inexpensive to rent, and almost any rental place has them.
Hope this helps,
Dave

Use a fine rake. When I lost my fiancee's ring in the grass, full of fall leaves, at my university (33 years ago), I took a rake and raked the lawn until we found the ring. I'm sure the maintenance people wondered about the half raked lawn the next morning.

My brother found his wife's wedding ring in the yard using a good metal detector. Not all have varied settings, you'll have to find one with varied settings to allow you to find gold or another element in with the gold.

Try searching with a LED flashlight on it at night. Gold should sparkle.

Just a thought, but wait til night time....when it's nice and dark....and use a flashlight...very low to the ground...and look for something reflecting the light. Might work.
