Is there anything you can do other than play the waiting game. I use HotJobs a lot and it seems like I am just sending resumes in vain. Any help?

There are several things you need to do. I don't think that on-line job sites are particularly effective. The best way to get a job is to know someone that will give you a referral! So find out how to meet people who work in the field that you are seeking employment. Go get a book on resume writing and interviewing and it will show you the socially acceptable way to to find, apply and fallow up on the jobs you want. The fallow up will very based on several factors a small company a call or a letter will go a long way. It shows your interested and motivated. Larger companies you have to find out who reviews your resume and either call or send them an e-mail.

There's nothing you can do. Remember, employers are probably receiving hundreds of responses to a posting at an online site. So unfortunately, you may well be sending resumes in vain. If you are particularly interested in a given employer try to find their company website. Most also post positions there. You may have more luck responding there or sending a fax copy of your resume.

Do not harass a potential employer. You will be immediately marked as trouble and pulled from all consideration!

Long story short, job hunting sucks unless you're in a very hot market or a sought after specialty. You just have to keep at it... Good luck!

Don't give up keep on sending them out, it might take a while but you'll get something.....a good tip is that when employers do a search for qualified people on these job sites they only look at resumes posted within the last week or so keep on "editing your resume" even though you might just go in there are remove a period and then add it again, it will keep your resume popping up for prospective employers every week.....also some job sites give you the option of what kind of employers can see your profile, make sure employers and employment agencies can both see your resume.....headhunters have been pretty good at finding me good jobs. GOOD LUCK AND HANG IN THERE.

Follow up!! Especially for HotJobs listings. Usually the local branch of whatever company you are appying to get the info within a day. When faced with a ton of applicants and one one position to fill, the persistent and the friendly, outgoing types are the first called in.

Call personnel dept. in a week and make an inquiry to see if job has been filled. Let them know you are interested.
