Depends on where I am. I usually call it whatever the locals call it.
Pop where I grew up, tonic in parts of New England, soda in most places. It's safest to be specific and ask for Pepsi or Coke or whatever you want.

Coke until I spent some time in Arizona. Now I will say soda at times. It seems to be a cultural thing (as in area of country.)

Soda, I was raised on the east coast for a bit. Both my parents are from Philly. I currently live in Michigan, where everyone calls it Pop. I still hold true to my roots and call it soda, with much harassing from my peers. :)

When I lived in Indiana I said pop. Then we moved to Georgia and now I say soda. I hate it when people ask for a coke and I hand them one and they say no I wanted a Sprite. Well say SPRITE you idgit! No offense. Coke made more than one kind, jeez!
