I used to work full-time (40hrs/week) two years ago. Then this past year I worked between 20-30 hours a week in order to study for an exam. I started working 40 hours again in December but just found out that our department is being laid off.

Also, I am still considered a "temp" status, as I am technically hired and paid through a temping agency.

If you've been working for the same company for 6 months, you may be eligible. Check with your local department of unemployment benefits. I know of at least one freelancer who has received unemployment benefits during slow periods, but I think it varies from state to state.

In your situation you would have to be an actual employee, not a contracted temp employee in order to get unemployment for being laid off. You should talk to your agency rep, and make them aware that you may be gettign laid off and reaching the end of this contract. They will then begin to find you another position, so when your done you can hit another job without losing money and time.

No. Since you are a temp, you're actually employed by the temp agency, not the company that they sent you to. I would contact your temp agency and let them know that your employment is winding down and you'll need a new job soon.

You should be able to becuase of your work history at the same location.

Better suggestion call the local unemployment office you paid for the insurance see what you can get.

I doubt you are elligible for UN EMP INS as a temp. I'd call the local office and verify, but usually temp's aren't actually "unemployed"
