Ok. You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop. You don't need to know their carrier or anything. Best part is that it is free. You don't have to worry about spam either. You can create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents! Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.
The people you send messages too will also like you because if you use the carriers service, they send the message as an SMTP, which means the recepient has to pay for it. Not very nice to those friends of yours now is.
Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

Just get into the person's contact information page on whatever IM program you're using, and there should be a space for mobile/phone# and when you go to send a message, there should be an option or icon (usually a cell phone) to click on to send it to their phone. Sorry, but you didn't say what IM you are using.

Open yahoo messenger and sign in. right above your contacts is a white blank- type the cell number there - then click on the upside down triangle to the right of the number you just typed in. It will give you the option to call this number or send an SMS. choos SMS - a window will pop open that will let you type in a text message and send it to the phone.

Either go to your cell phone carrier's website or go to that of your friend's cell phone. For example, go to TMobile.com. Click on send a text message. Type your friend's cell phone # and type your message. That should work perfectly.
For Verizon, go to Verizon Wirless.com or vtext.com.

GO to the Verizon website and type in the phone number... there should be a link to send a text msg. you should be able to do it that way. I have done it with other phones

If you want to send text messages to a phone on any provider, try
http://www.txt2day.com (You will need to know which carrier the recipient is on, but they have an extensive list of carriers.) They also have a Candian version and one in Español.

You can do it with yahoo messenger. Theres an option to send a text to cell phones

Whichever your provider you have...for example if you have alltel..you would go to www.alltel.com...there is a little icon where it says send a text message then..it has the steps to follow from there.

You have to do it on your cell phone provider web page. If you're a Sprint customer, you'll have to go to Sprint.com and log in...and then send a text.

if you have aim you instant message the number with the area code first but before the area code put in a plus sign
