The prefix homo means human or man. Erectus for walking upright, or erect. They aren't extinct, they merely evolved...

no, basically we are homo erectus too, it is just another way of saying a man standing upright, we just got classified as homo-sapiens. some of us are homo, like yourself, but unfortunately, they are not extinct yet.
