Some people here are living in the past. Mel Gibson makes mistakes everyday just like everyone else, but no one can deny his talent for making fantastic movies. It really doesn't matter if you are watching something he acted in or directed, the fact is he is a cash cow with anything he touches.

Mel Gibson the director is a very good director.
Both "Passion" and "Apocalypto" are very good (albeit violent and bloody) films.
Mel Gibson the person needs a lot of work and may never fully rehabilitate himself

I don't know about the past it thing... but he has been a director for years before the incident. Braveheart (1995), Passion of the Christ (2004) and The Man Without A Face (1993) were all directed by him.

To be frank, Gibson's career is still in damage control mode, and it remains to be seen if it will ever get back on track. I think it's fair to say a lesser performer's career would be over after "that incident".

its a shame when actors and directors have to make a hit movie to be considered good after a bad private incident, private and professional stories should be kept seperate, personally i cant wait to see A pocolypto

pretend? I like his honesty & the way he has handled himself through all the rough times - we all have them & some of us get caught, and some of us don't. It's only a matter of time. but, overall, I like him, his movies. I haven't seen the violent ones - I love Whaat women want - he's great in that. Oh, and "Passion of the Christ," incredible!!

i would say that if you are paid millions of dollars for doing a job as a director,
you are a director.
That does not mean however that you are a good director.

I thought Braveheart and Patriot were brilliantly directed as was Apacalypto...you can say anything you want about if the movies themselves were bad due to story...but the directing was good.

As a person, yes, as a director; he still has some steam.
