And when they do start growing out, they are like so thin they break and bend? Anything anyone has tried will be helpful.

Try taking pregnancy vitamins or drink gelatin to make them stronger and put something distasteful like Mercurochrome or some other bitter or spicy taste you hate - it will help you quit. There is an over the counter Nail Bite product but you would have to see if it is bitter enough to help you stop. Also you could get a manicure with silk tips so you can't bite them and you won't want to because they look so nice. Good Luck!

okay. Dont put them in your mouth at all because the acid in the saliva makes them weak.
Use a nail polish/solution that tastes horrible and apply. If you are in the U.K. then 'Nail the Habit' dip and twist solution is perfect. It can be bought from Superdrug.
Then apply a nail varnish which is there if you look carefully but not to the rest of the world!!! Clear or light brown glittery is good.

Remember to put th vile tasting stuff OVER the varnish. The varnish temporarily strenghthens them while you stop biting. Then when you are finished and your nails are long, use Sally Hansens diamond strength nail varnish every day for a month.

Also instead of a colour you could use Sally Hansen's growth varnish. I've used it and it really is good. Your nails grow much faster! Good luck! It's hard but you can do it!!!!

I bit my nails from the time I was 5 until I was 17. I broke the habit by getting artifical nails over my natrual nails. They look beatiful, I'm always getting complimented on how my nails look, and I love going to the spa to get a little pampering treatment every couple of weeks!

You can also try a bitter tasting nail polish which can be purchased at a drug store, but that didn't work for me.

my husband has gnawed his nails forever, and one day at work (he's an autobody repair guy) he was working on a truck that someone had stolen and the police shot the guy in the truck. After dealing with something so gross, he hasn't bitten his nails in like 3 months now. You might want to just think of all the nasty things and germs you come into contact with on a daily basis - that's what worked for him.

Get mercuronome - it's that red, iodine type antiseptic liquid. Paint all your nails with it. Next time you try to bite your nails, not only will you have a foul taste in your mouth, but your lips will be stained orange-red. It will get rid of the bad habit very quickly.

Try putting glue on nails. You won't like the taste of them and eventually, they will grow.
