Let me guess ... you need this for a book report and you didn't read the book. MAN! I wish I had a dollar for every time I did that in the past. (Deep sigh) OK, here we go ...
A RAISIN IN THE SUN tells the story of a family living and struggling on Chicago's South Side in the 1950s. It is a fiercely moving portrait of people whose hopes and dreams are constantly deferred.
That's all you get. Now go read the book. ;)
Good luck!

It's a play, actuallly. It was writting by Lorraine Hansberry. I read it about two months ago. Basically, it is about an African-American family residing together in a small apartment. Mama's husband recently passed, leaving her with $10,000 (heed that this story takes place in approximately the 50's), a lot of money for that time. Living together in this small apartment are Mama, her daughter and son, her daughter-in-law, and a grandson. Everyone in the family is fighting over how to spend the money. Mama's son wants to open a liquor store, her daughter wants to be a doctor, and Mama wants to buy a bigger home for the family to live in.
Here is more info on it, I limited on time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raisin_in_the_Sun

A RAISIN IN THE SUN (note the spelling) is not a book. It is a play. It was also made into a movie -- starring Sidney Poitier.
The link below is a good place to start.

Liz, seems to me like you need to go to your local library to check it out and read it. It's a good book, so learn the "ditels" for yourself. Once you have read it you can check out the movie.
