The best thing to do is get ready before you get pregnant. In my experience, the women that were smaller in weight had less stretch marks than the heavier women. I theorize that if you are overweight before you get pregnant that you are predisposed because the skin has to stretch further. You have seen many models that are relatively skinny when they deliver, with these huge bellies and they never have the stretch marks like people we know. Cocoa butter or lanolin is good a making the skin more soft but they can't prevent a stretch mark. Heredity plays the biggest part in it. If you are fit before you get pregnant, than it is less of a destructive process on your body if you continue to maintain your fitness during your pregnancy. Drink plenty of water, exercise, eat right, and take care of yourself.

Even though medically speaking no creams work, keeping the skin hydrated can lessen the appearance of stretch marks. Palmer's makes an especially gooey stretch mark formula, but only use it with clothes that you don't mind getting all oily. Another recommendation to lessen stretch marks is don't gain too much weight during pregnancy. Maximum is 25lbs, unless you are extremely underweight to start with. The less the skin stretches, the less chance of stretch marks. Ultimately, the main influence on stretch marks is genetics. If your mom had them, you probably will, too.

You need to use oil. I read Gwyneth Paltrow used Clarins Body Tonic oil on both her pregnancies. I used it with my first pregnancy also and didn't get any stretch marks. I am using it again with this pregnancy (6 weeks to go) and so far so good again. Both times I have started using it as soon as I found out I was pregnant though. Although I have read an article that said they are still unsure if using creams and oils really has any benefit at all. They are still researching as they think it could just be in your genes and to do with your skin. I didn't like to leave anything to chance though. I used a good oil so even if I still ended up with stretch marks I could say I at least tried!

I'm 38 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and don't have ANY stretch marks. I didn't get any with any of my children. I used Oil of Olay Quench (in the purple bottle) to keep my skin very moisturized and just made sure I had a healthy diet and drank lots of water.
I think stretch marks happen if you gain too much weight too soon. They say you can do anything to prevent them, but I do think you can do something to lower your risk.

I'm not and never have been pregnant but I was involved in a car accident and broke my arm. They had to surgery to fix it and it left me with a horrible surgical scar. The scar was about twelve inches long and was very red.
I use Palmer's Coco Butter and Vitamin E cream. It comes in a little round tub. It is very thick. I rub my arm with it in the morning and at night time and the scar has gotten smoother and it is no longer red. It has turned back to my normal skin color.
I figure if it helped a scar that was as bad as mine, it should really help prevent stretch marks.

I heard cocoa butter and used it religiously from very early pregnancy. I'm very sorry to report that it doesn't work. I'm now 40 weeks pregnant and covered in stretch marks. Yet I have friends who didn't use anything and have not had one. I've come to the conclusion that its just down to the natural elasticity of your skin. So if I was you I would save your money and just keep your finger's crossed.

Unfortunately stretch marks are genetic... However me & some friends agree that the less scratching you do to your very itchy belly the less mark we got...(Don't really know why?) Just try to keep it very moistureized, like an intensive care, anti-itch w/ vitamin E, lotion, cream or body butter. There are a ton out there, try them until you find one you like...You can even start looking & testing now!

No cream will prevent stretch marks. It's all genetics. I've had four and not one stretch mark and my best friend had one and has red stretch marks all over her stomach. I personally wouldn't mind stretch marks for the lives of my children...it's such a small price to pay to have such a beautiful thing in your life. Good luck to you.

Stretch marks are really according to the type of skin you have. Check out what happened to your mother's skin during pregnancy. There is this cream that is sold on
www. carolsdaughter.com. It is called "sexy belly" I have never used it but I use her other skin and hair products and I am very pleased. It is all natural. Good luck!!

NO creams work on stretch marks! Do your research - nothing helps stretch marks!!! They come from inside and there is nothing you can do to prevent them. If your family has a history of stretch marks the odds are against you!
