Come on, you are amongst friends. I'm sure you've often come out of the woods naked and confused.

Remember our little trip last summer?

Chuck, you need to check your facts.

NO ONE has ever suggested that we humans evolved from monkeys, or even apes. The concept of evolution (in humans) says that we evolved from the same creatures that apes also evolved from.

Also, if you read up, you'll understand that evolution in nature is most definitely a fact. We have watched different species evolve over time...it has been scientifically documented.

What's odd to me is that some people (yourself included?) assume that just because we have evolved that God wasn't our creator. You don't REALLY believe that God took one of Adam's ribs out, to make Eve, do you? Try to remember that the bible was written by humans, and edited by politicians...much of what's written there is intended to provide an explanation when we hadn't learned enough about the world to otherwise know. Kinda like the Mayans believing that eclipses were the gods of the sky being mad at them...We now know what an eclipse is, but back then, we had to come up with justification for what we couldn't otherwise explain.

Why do people who know nothing about evolution always ask evolution questions? I must give kudos to abfabmom1. Why does it always have to be evolution or creationism. It can be both if you have a good head on your shoulders and a belief in something greater than yourself. I believe that evolution has happened and is happening still. I also believe that God set things in motion. To me, life is mysterious and explainable at the same time. So now that I've wasted time rambling about what I believe, if you want an answer to the "people wandering out of the woods naked and confused" question, take a college course to learn the old fashioned way - read.

Evolution isn't a fact, it's a theory.

What I've never had answered to my satisfaction is this: if humans evolved from apes... why are there still apes? Generally in evolution if something adapts and changes to such a vast degree of difference as is between apes and humans.. the original thing doesn't exist any longer because it's no longer necessary and/or viable.

And yes, I would think that would weird them out... big time!!! :-)

Evolution does not happen on an individual "monkey-by-monkey" basis. Groups evolve as a society over a long period of time.

yes, that's a fact jack. There are people wandering in the woods naked. Not confused, just naked.

Chuck dude, evolution isn't a theory its a religion... if you study the history of pagan cultures you'll find that there were a group of pagan dudes that used to belive that things came out of water and became in to other things... im not joking im serious you can go check it out on wikipedia... then the greeks took this theory and wrote it down then some dudes studied it and called it evolution... Have you ever seen the natural history museum in England... it looks like a freakin' Church! makes you wanna wonder if its acutally a museum or a pagan worship house!

I think you'll understand this better if I use an analogy to explain it, so let's compare species evolution with language evolution.

Languages are constantly changing and evolving in response to various external pressures and the changing needs of their speakers. In the past, people in Rome, and later all across the Roman Empire, spoke Latin. As Latin began to mix with local languages across the empire, it began to change in various ways in different locations. New dialects evolved over decades and centuries, but people in those areas were still pretty much speaking Latin. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Latin spoken in various areas began to evolve somewhat more rapidly. Eventually, hundreds of years later, Latin was said to have evolved into various new languages, including Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, among others. Thus, Latin was declared dead.

Latin didn't exactly die, however, so much as it evolved into several new languages that continue to live on. Thus, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese can be said to be descendants of Latin, but also examples of "living Latin." But there was no moment in which Latin suddenly evolved into French, for example; Latin did not give birth to French in a single day. Yet clearly modern French would be mutually incomprehensible to the speakers of Latin of 50 B.C., and is also mutually incomprehensible to speakers of Italian and Spanish who have never studied a word of it, in spite of their obvious similarities. (It's important to note, however, that languages evolve much more quickly than species do.)

Likewise, the species we evolved from are in a sense extinct, but continue to live on in our genes. We are their descendants, yet because we have evolved to a point that we would no longer be able to reproduce with our ancestors (because of genetic mismatches), we are considered at separate species. The same thing can be said of the great apes, who also evolved from these same ancestors. They are separate species from us because they evolved in a different direction. At no point did our ancestors just suddenly give birth to a fully developed child of another species.

Thus, no naked humans would be falling out of trees and wandering out of the forest with a confused expression on their face, and no monkeys would be surprised as a result.

What???? The definition of evolution means that there are no people walking around in the woods confused.

And how are we supposed to see something that happens over hundreds of thousands of years actually happening in an average lifetime of 80 years, or in evolutionary terms, a blink of an eye.....? God some people...AARRGGHH!!!
