Hey Non Active,

First, take Laney Po's advice - she knows books!

Me, I am a hack at best. My advice is to read a lot, so you find what you like, and what you don't like.

Here is a great series about Wooden ships and Iron Men, it includes the block buster Master and Commander:

Post Captain (Aubrey Maturin Series) (Paperback)
by Patrick O'Brian "At first dawn the swathes of rain drifting eastwards across the Channel parted long enough to show that the chase had altered course..." 1.

Personally I think that you can read all kinds of "adult" books as a young adult! I guess it depends on how old you are and if your parents are cool with letting you read whatever you want, but some of my faves were/are:
* "Why Moths Hate Thomas Edison", Hampton Sides (editor) is a collection of science Q&A from Outside magazine.
* "Darkness at Noon" by Arthur Koestler (political fiction, I first read it for school, but I really love this book). If you like this book check out "The Commissar Vanishes" by David King which is about the falsification of photographs in Russia under Stalin.
* The "Dune" series by Frank Herbert if you are into sci-fi
* Anything by Dick Francis for a good escapist mystery, usually involving the horse-racing world.
* "The Way Things Work" by David Macaulay

Hope you read at least one, I promise you won't be sorry!!

When i was young i asked our school librarain that same question and i said exactly what you said, no love or lame joke book. What she said was, well, for young adults like you i would recomend "The wander", "to kill a mocking bird", "the true confessions of charlotte doyle", and books which invole nature and life. P.s i miss my teacher a lot! i wish that, that silly cancer wouldn't take her away from me and the world around me.

I would recommend the following:
"Meet you at the Top" by Zig Ziegler" It is an uplifting book by a great motivational writer and speaker.

Also, "God wants you to be Rich" by Paul Zane Pilzer. He is a top Christian Economist that gives good Bibilical answers to a lot of questions in an entertaining way!
