If abortion isn't murder then why do killers of pregnant women get charged with double homicide?

Every abortion kills an innocent human being. Every abortion is murder. For more information, see:

It depends on what people consider a life. Society has agreed that the taking of an innocent life constitutes a crime. However, in the abortion debate, society has not come to any agreement as to whether the fetus (in the early stages of development at least) should be considered a life or not.

Because of that circumstance, the fetus is not considered a life legally, and abortion falls into a medical procedure which the Supreme Court has said cannot be interfered with, at least not until the 3rd trimester.

In order for one to justify their stand on this issue, pro or con, it would seem necessary to choose a position on when or whether the fetus is a life or not. There are several options:

1. at conception
2. at implantation
(after this time, twinning and recombination issues are resolved and cannot occur once the embryo implants in the uterine wall)
3. after organ formation
(variations are possible on this position. Some will argue a brain must be formed, others say a central nervous system is required, others that all organs must be formed, etc.)
4. at viablity outside the womb
5. at birth
6. some time after birth/ the 'performance argument' (writers such as Peter Singer and Mary Anne Warren have argued newborns should not be considered human persons (meaning infanticide would be acceptable) because they do not demonstrate any level of sophisticated cognitive 'performance'. In simple terms a newborn cant talk, feed itself, walk, write, and cant demonstrate it's thinking or aware of itself, etc.)

There are variations to these 6 basic positions as well.

pro choice! it is completely up to the individual and nobody should judge them for their desicion. As the saying goes "You shouldnt judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes". And also i doubt that having an abortion is an easy desicion for any person to make and really people should not make a difficult time harder for them.

I am pro life and pro choice but I am anti abortion. I would never tell a woman she needs to have a child but that decision has to be hers to make prior to consensual sex. If she is raped, a minor, if the child will be retarded or severely disabled, or the mother's health is in danger, then I support the decision of the woman.

Abortion on demand is sick and wrong and is the scourge of our country.

I am pro-choice, but I am also for stronger birth control and sex education to try to minimize the numbers of those who become pregnant by "mistake" in the first place. I don't support abortion as birth control, and I think those who have multiple abortions should be penalized in some fashion for using it as such.

Abortion as a method of birth control is wrong. In cases such as rape and incest, should be left up to the woman. I am pro-life, but there are circumstances that need addressing.

It doesnt matter what I think, abortion is a dead issue, the only people's opinions that matter is the supreme court, but if you must know I am a pro-choice Republican, simply because laws against abortion are unconstitutional.

Pro life, but with the following exceptions: Mothers life in danger. Rape. Incest. I would also say these should always be in the first tri-mester except for the Mothers health, which could happen later in pregnancy. Abortion as a form of birth control is morally wrong. I know all the pro choice people will slam me, but all I'm doing is expressing my opinion. You have your right to yours, please respect the right of others to disagree with you. Peace.

The proper question to ask is, does the government have the right to force a woman to give birth?

The Supreme Court says that it's a privacy issue, that the government doesn't have that right because it's an invasion of a woman's privacy to try to prevent her from having a medical procedure.

All this "murdering babies" talk is from overly emotional people who don't know how to determine legality. Our government is not supposed to be a moral or religious guide. It is supposed to be a legal one.

Not a matter the government should be involved in. Let the market place determine the need for abortion.

I do not agree with abortion but I am not going to keep you from spending you money on it.
