your use of the word "sociopath" is mistaken...PSYCHOpaths are born this way, whereas SOCIOpaths are, if you will, created through conditioning.
having said that, i was well aware of the prevalence...that is why you should always pay attention, for god sakes. does it bother me? i guess, but what can you do?
Robert Hare is basically the foremost expert on psychopaths today...he's written a book for the layman called: Without Conscious: The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us (about $10 at amazon)...if you want some tips on how to spot one, or what life is like through the eyes of one (and why) i HIGHLY recommend this book...its a good read and quick too

I'm not surprised.
But...and I haven't read the article for myself...what about that larger percentage of men and women who are
'situationally' sociopathic?
That is...people who are routinely 'uncaring and unfeeling' around certain people. As an example, I have an ex-boyfriend and I feel that if he should drop dead (like, today) I wouldn't feel anything. I know it sounds harsh, but that's the way I feel. For him, I'm a big void when it comes to any feelings (yea or nay)! I don't hate him, I just don't feel anything!
His daddy died in a tornado a couple of years ago and when he told me about it, I was like "HAVE A NICE DAY"!

I don't care what the stats are, I don't think anyone is born without the ability to care for or sympathize/empathize with other people, I think they have overrode that part of themselves so much that they have made themselve null and void.

It doesn't bother me, it's just another fact of life. I have a sociopath in my life and he's not the serial killer psycho that many seem to think that sociopaths (and psychopaths) are.

And be perfectly agreeable and pleasant right after having killed someone and just doing whatever they want with no remorse? a little. how 'bout you?
(and i was almost positive that sociopaths and psychopaths were the same thing, different name)

Hmm, I think I'm probably in that 3% of people who doesn't sympathize with other people. That's just me, I guess.
