we have berber carpet, and my husband is a truck driver, and he gets tar on the bottom of his boots, and when he comes home and forgets to take off his boots when he comes in the door, he leaves black marks in the carpet. i've tried everything to get the stains out, carpet cleaners, shampooing the carpet, nothing works. anybody know any ideas, or know of some really good carpet cleaner? thanks!

try butter - i know it sounds odd but it works

Tar is oil based so you need a grease cutting agent have you tried a kitchen grease cutter? Might work I suggest trying it on a spot that won't show in case it takes the color out of the rug.
