To those who have read this text: how did this affect you as a reader. Why do you think he'd compose his novel this way?

I think this is part of why his style is called "magical realism," because even though inexplicable things happen in his books, you're often left with the kind of problems a person encounters in the real world, such as unanswered questions. For me, I liked the story, and I think the unanswered questions help give this and just about everything he writes an air of mystery, like you don't understand everything that's going on, but you feel like it makes sense on some level, just the same.

I agree with Andrea: We know that a character is going to die. We know who is going to commit the murder. We know how he could have avoided the murder. And yet we still read on in facination. I don't think that "Chronicle of A Death Foretold" has as much "magical realism" in it as many of Marquez' other novels. In fact, if I remember correctly, and I read the novel several years ago, Marquez says that the novel is based on an incident that took place when he was a newspaper correspondent.

I have read it long time ago and enjoy it very much. You have to be a really good writer to say in the title that the main character will die, and still you can not stop reading until you finish. I was so fascinated by his skills, how the story flow, the intensity and paste of the story that it did not bother me if some or many questions were unsolved.

he's never interested in answering questions, simply raising and exploring them thereby allowing the reader to ponder their outcomes and implications
