Do you think the death penalty is right or wrong? We just did our firs execution of the year last night here in TX. As Ron White says, we have an express lane.

I think that your answer should depend on the facts. Using conscience and common sense based on the facts does not mean you excuse brutal acts or the people who commit them.

The answerer EvilAngel is mistaken about costs. The death penalty costs much more than life without parole. Much of the extra costs occur early in the process- death penalty trials are far more complicated and take much longer.

Here are a few other facts about the death penalty. We should make up our minds about the death penalty using common sense based on the facts. Revenge is not a smart answer to your question.

Over 120 people have been released from death row with compelling evidence of their inncence, many after spending over 2 decades locked up. (They would have been killed if the process were speeded up, and, in our name.)

After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there. It is human nature to make mistakes.

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have the death than in states which do not have it. Most people who commit murder do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

More and more states have life without parole on the books. I think that Texas now has it. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, with no hope of anything else.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

Well i was the one who asked that question "is abortion right or wrong". I think as far as the death penalty goes it depends on the circumstances and reasons for the penalty. Their has been many cases where people have been on death row and then later have been proven innocent. I think first we need to get a lot more evidence if we are going to execute someone.

Capital punishment has nothing to do with punishment or deterrence and everything to do with primal vengeance. which seems to be very satisfying to a lot of people.

Moreover, the execution of an innocent person is inevitable, and we won't be able to just say "Oops."
It has nearly happened several times, even in my own state of Maryland (search "Kirk Bloodsworth.")
It probably DID happen in Florida (search "Willie Jasper Darden")
No amount of technological or legal guarantee can assure us that it won't happen in the future, and I would ask death penalty supporters who would say that "you have to break a few eggs..." whether or not they are willing to be the innocent person getting the lethal injection, or to watch a loved one get the needle unjustly.

I think the death penalty is awesome. In fact I wish it were televised. I think we waste taxpayer money keeping them on death row fo 20 years. Why not just take them straight from sentencing to the chair and zap them?

Sure I believe in the death penalty... when they are truly guilty.

I guess when their is DNA evidence or cameras or something to back them up...

I really don't care one way or the other. The way I see it, if you don't do anything wrong, then you won't have anything to worry about. I do however agree with euthanasia 100%.
