I am looking to go for a Masters in Economics with an emphasis in finance and banking from Vanderbilt. But I also have the option of attending Emory Law School. Which sounds like the better deal? A year and a half MA Economics program from Vanderbilt or three years and a 100,000 investment with Emory Law School?

They are both great schools. Emory is the slightly better school. But since you are looking at different disciplines, it really shouldn't be the school that determines where you go. Do you want to be a lawyer or do you want to work in finance?

If you really want to go into banking, I would recommend an MBA program over the MA program. The only advantage to the MA over an MBA is that you can do it without work experience.

Seems to me you need to decide if you are going to pursue economics or law as a career before you make this decision. Both schools have EXCELLENT reputations in these specialties.

Consider your ROI as well. 18 mos. in finance/banking could result in a very high-paying position, as could three years in law school. Perhaps you could pursue finance & banking law as an option.
