This is just a question to attract attention to the matter. I've recently found out I am pregnant, and shocked as I was, I rushed to the doctor. Had a test done and it said I was 6 to 7 weeks gone. Fair enough, were it not that 7 weeks prior to that test, I was going out with someone different, who not soon after broke up with me. I had asked the doctor to give me a specific date of conception because this is obviously very important for me to find out who exactly the father is. She assured me it would be from conception.
So the next day she phoned me with the news. I nearly went to tell my ex he was going to be a father until I did some further research on hCG levels and such. I calculated backwards as much as I could to figure out for myself how far gone I was. Turns out the father is someone completely different.

Now, why can't they just calculate from the conception date on? And WHY do doctors feel the need to add another 2 weeks to the date, apart from it being the last period

well normally its not the doctors problem if you are going around and sleeping with mulitple men, that would be your problem so if he isnt able to tell you when guy is the father based on a day of the week, then you should seek a paternity test on the Jery Springer show

Because there is no way to tell when exact conception occured. It could take anywhere from 6-12 days before implantation occurs and without implantation, there is no hcg. You're conception will always be calculated with a variance.

Some women know when they conceived simply because they had sex 1 time in 2 weeks...the two weeks that they could be ovulating. But most people don't know.

I know technically your 2 weeks pregnant before you've even concieved! Take the date of your last period add around 10 -16 days th father would be who you were having intercourse with around this time. This allows for ovulation and the length of time sperm can live (this is if you have regular 28-31 day cycle) Hopefully just one man will fall into this catergory. Good luck:o)

By the time you miss your first period (if you are regular) you are then classed as 4 weeks pregnant, so conception was approx 2 weeks earlier, I know i was confused when I found out I was pregnant first time.

As for why they work it this way not got a clue, maybe ask a doctor.

If you have regular periods then conception was around two weeks after the start of your last period. pregnancy is officially 40 weeks from the date of period which is why it is counted this way. It actually works out at 9 months and a week.

Ultrasounds are fairly precise at giving a due date, granted they are not continuously striking. yet they do supply a extremely good wager in accordance to what your uterus is measuring and what the toddler is measuring. My first ultrasound stated my due date become april 8, with my second ultrasound it stated april 6.. So it truly is no longer that a lot distinction. yet i have heard that you'll be able to go everywhere from 10 days ahead or 10 days overdue from the ultrasound due date
