What will bring an end to the troubles in Iraq?

There have been two paths to peace proposed - one by the Baker Commission and one by the former Finance Minister of Iraq. Both say the same thing - increasing the number of US troops will make things worse, and that the only way to peace is through dialogue and partnership with countries like Iran and Syria. These people are EXPERTS.

It was noticable that Bush's plan does the exact opposite. Any sensible and reasonably intelligent person can see what the outcome will be of his course of action - more violence, more innocent civillians killed, more military casualities, more instability.

No Bush is not right in sending other troops in Iraq for it brings no end to civil and other violence,it will be another Vietnam,Bush has to give a date when he will be retreating his troops from Iraq Than peace might come to that place for the Iraq people are intelligent people and patriotic, and their resources(oil and gases) will be used only for the benefit of the Iraq people for as it is at present, Iraq wealth is enriching other nations,of which USA is a big business partner

Personally, I think it will help to quell the violence but there are determined militants that will give their lives to make sure violence never ends.

Even if we do leave Iraq in better shape and remove our troops, I very much doubt that Iraq will remain a democracy. I'd be surprised if it survives a decade.

I can't imagine what will bring an end to violence in the region. It is still a good idea to try democracy there because one must start somewhere. But the existence of sectarianism for thousands of years just doesn't go away overnight.

No his plan will take two to three years to work.He plans on passing this problem to the next president.Smooth if it works he takes the credit. If it fails all the blame will not be on him.He did not give us a clue to the time table for leaving Iraq.Bush told us our stay in Iraq is not open ended. That is not telling us anything. He tells us more money and lives will be spent to wage more war.The time will come when we the people will feel the cost is too high to wage war in Iraq.At that time the war will end.We do not have the money for this war because President Bush was busy decreasing the taxes of Donald Trump and his rich peeps who do not have kids fighting in the war.If you love the troops leave Iraq.

The problem is that you are asking the wrong question. He was not proposing to continue with only a military solution but a political one as well. The many who didn't listen to the president's speech at all have formed an opinion that is unconnected to reality in the world or events in Iraq. Instead of counting the victories and listening to the whole plan they see things as they want and make comments as if no objectives have been acheived and as if the president just said all he was going to do was put more troops in. Perhaps you should go read a transcript and learn what the plan is, and then ask questions if it's still necessary.

No I don't think more troops should be sent to Iraq.

There is only one solution to ending violence in the world.

That is for every one on the planet to say NO to violence and YES to peace.

For some reason we don't seem to have the intelligence to sort things out without killing each other, I wonder why that is!

Well I don't know if I should answer this question because I am biased against the war so it will be hard for me to be objective. But, here goes. I am a Vietnam Vet with 4 tours, purple heart, and stateside service after.

I consider myself very patriotic however, I believe the war was fabricated against Iraq primarily to draw attention away from our inability to defend ourselves at home. After 9/11 the President was looking for any excuse possible to get the attention off his cabinet and himself.

Hence, lets invent a reason to divert attention away from our woefully inadequate ability to defend ourself at home, to gather inteligence at home and to coordinate our efforts to gaurd our ports, airports, and borders.

I think this whole fiasco and loss of life could have been averted, by just owning up to the fact that our inteligence community screwed up and our President overeacted to some degree.

Adding troops will not cure this situation. What it will do is delay it enough to become another Presidents problem. So adding troops is wrong and will cause countless deaths.

Let me add that I WAS a life long Republican but no more! Enough is enough.

Of course it won't bring an end to violence. Probably just the opposite.

I think lots and lots of harsh chemicals in the water would end Iraq's troubles.

Well I hate to admit it but he's probably right. We can't just leave from over there. We have to bring it to some kind of conclusion or they'll be attacking us again. I don't think we will ever be able to bring an end to the civil war there, but we can help the people who want peace, to be able to fight for it themselves. There will be no total end to the troubles in Iraq, until God puts an end to it.

He's only sending in more troops because he needs to have iraq under some sort of control before he attacks Iran.
