Why does everyone feel the need to be the smartest, most witty, most controvercial person on this site. I know I'm sarcastic sometimes and I occasionally lose it on some bigot or idiot but seriously why do some people feel the need to belittle everyone on here??

I never belittle unless the person is belittling themselves. That is also the only reason I'll give a person a thumbs down.

I don't know that "everyone" feels that way. I certainly don't. I try to answer questions in the spirit in which they are asked. Some are obviously not meant to be taken seriously, while others are clearly meant to be controversial. When I ask a question I am not trying to be either but am seeking information or opinions. I don't resent those who happen to be witty or controversial and it never occurred to me that there was competition to be the most witty or controversial. I'm usually entertained by the witty questions and answers. I have mixed feelings about certain controversial questions and am opinionated and passionate about others. I thought that was what this was about.

Each of us is the sum total of our experiences, education, upbringing, environment and social culture. How we approach a problem, dilemma or question depends on what we are trying to derive from life in the biggest sense. So, when we belittle others, we try to build ourselves, but the opposite is usually true.
In other words, it is just being human, and it takes all kinds. Just don't let it ruin your life.

May be they feel better after doing that. I mean, in a world where winner takes all, everyone wants to be a winner. Everyone wants to be a hero. So, by doing that, may be they feel more like a winner.
But, trust me, it will just make you feel more like a loser when you realized that you've hurt someone's feelings, no matter how brief moment that might be.

Generally the people who belittle everyone on here are the ones who can't stand up for themselves in real life...so they need to find some way to get that anger out.

We feel the need to be smart because it betters our survival. We feel the need also to debate what we deem important issues to bring about education awareness, change and shape our world with actions followed by our ideas. Our words are powerful when you look at what they can inspire. It is a selfless act to spread knowledge very rare do I see the egotist.

People by nature belittle that which they fear, so that they may take the power out what scares them.
Unfortunately, other just have a perverse view of what is funny.

I totally understand - being witty is one thing (and God knows I love a good laugh) but yes, some people are so mean natured and nasty or just plain rude. Look at it this way - the way we treat other people is usually a reflection of ourselves. Take that the rest of you twits!!!

Yes, there is no point in their trying. Clearly I am the smartest, and most witty. I don't think I am particularly controversial...I'll work on it.
