£500 000 a week x 52 weeks = £26 000 000
£26 000 000 x the 5 year contract = £130 000 000
£130000000 for his entire contract for.... kicking a ball in America?
That's crazy!!
How can he take that much money when there are millions of people all over the world with nothing?
Anyone else feel like this?

Not when there are men women and children dying of starvation and AIDS etc. He says he is not in it for the money... well why else would he go to a club in a country where Football is second rate to American Football? Why not choose a Sunday league team, Im sure my local side would love someone of his talent. Ill tell you why... Victoria lives up to her nickname... posh, the only reason he moved to Madrid was because SHE wanted all the fashion shops and the like, now he is moving to LA, yet another 'posh' city.

All this goes to show that Football is no longer a sport, and it hasnt been for some years, when is it going to stop? when a player signs for 1,000,000 a week?
Football players are way overrated, they kick a ball about for 90 sometimes 180 minutes a week, get paid more money than the average man would struggle to earn in several lifetimes let alone a week!

I really dont know how they can sleep at night and should be ashamed of themselves, Greed will be the games downfall soon enough.

Do i perceive a touch of jealousy, ? its a fact that he is an icon , in demand , and whether anyone likes it or not certain companies will pay huge amounts for his services.
What happens in other parts of the world regarding the poor has absolutely nothing to do with Beckham.
No i do not see the connection , further have no feelings akin to yours . Personally i am disabled ,live on benefits and do not wish those fortunate to have made it in this world through thier own achievements any bad feeling. good luck to him and all others like him.

I personally think it's hilarious. For the most part, Americans don't watch soccer, so he will definitely lose publicity. I don't think they will fit in very well in LA, but whatever, it is his choice. And the contract? ridiculous, athletes get paid waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much. 130 million could be put to a better cause, like starving kids in Africa perhaps. People would rather see David Beckham's wife get even more anorexic and see him wear more armani suits then see a kid miraculously survive a disease. This is the unfortunate truth.

I agree with you, it is ridiculous. I don't think any job in the world deserves that sort of money. Even actors earn millions to star in a film. I think there are a lot better ways to spend money than this. I could certainly do without watching football or films so that the money could be donated to better causes.

You invest for what you think you'll get a return for!

Beckham is not the best player in the world but Real new how many shirts he'd sell.

Baseball players wages are bigger than footballers so if the yanks want to pay over the odds for players getting up to there play by date, so be it.

Its called "market value". He simply sells T-shirts and other items. No he is not worth that, the fans end up paying for it!! He doesnt not work any harder than me, I work in quarry where I lift big blocks of slate everyday for 8 hours and I see pricks like him getting millions for their physical work out, I do it every day they do twice a week with the best food and couching teams in the world. I hope 1 day the fans realise this and stop buying the match tickets and T-shirts and stop using Pay-Per-View and teach these greedy autobiography, aftershave and fashion item launching bastards, that they are not gods, just people and its about time they started helping someone apart from their selves

It is totally ridiculous for any player at any level with any club

BUT especially in this case as he will be in a club with players on nowhere near that level of money, the majority of which will be unheard of to most football fans. With this being the case this level of pay is absurd as the club will still not get games televised to a large footballing audience.

Well lets be honost I'l not a supporter of big contracts, but hey If the owners are so *&^% stupid that they will pay it then good for the guy who gets it. besides he is reallt coming to get the advertising dollars... like... Tiger Woods... he is great at his sport thought.. Beckham is a name that is what is going to sell... I think L.A. was the location of choice because he is looking to get into acting... lets face it nobody can act like a soccer player... have you seen the dives..... lol

No. Way.

It's an obscene, outrageous amount of money. I'm sure he does a lot of good with kids who want to play football, and I'm sure (at least I hope I'm sure) that he gives a lot to charity, but it really makes my skin crawl.

£130m is enough to pay every single woman, man & child in the UK £2 each, and he'd still have £10m left over. Isn't £2m a year enough to live on? I get by on one hundredth of that!

David Beckham's football talent is irrelevant here, he is simply a publicity machine for whatever team he goes to. It's really an advertising budget they are paying him, to raise the profile of the game in America and of the team he goes to.
