I just get the impression Conservatives are way of key on this subject....

You can support the troops, love America, be a full scale patriot, but dislike what this President stands for.. right?

Let Teddy Roosevelt answer your question.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Theodore Roosevelt

No the world is not black and white. But HATING the president is not supporting the country. Disagree all ya want that is your right, but support the country and unfortunately for you that means supporting the country's leadership. Hatred, the venom you liberals display, you humanists(?) is stronger than disagreement and it blurs the line between mere dissent and hatred for the country.

Again, as I've had to explain so many times, you cannot be a patriot if you don't support the authority of the country and love your country without questions, that is the definition. Its ok everybody doesn't have to be a patriot, its a pretty rigid line to follow and it isn't a bad thing if your not. Even though they try to make you look bad if your not, its not true, you can love your country and not be a patriot.

I do believe support Bush= Support America, he is the elected general leader of our country. And when you use the terms hate and the venom you and your like often display you walk the jagged edge of the other part of your statement.

I agree. I support the troops and love America but I have never been supportive of the Bush administration. The President technically works for all citizens of this country and if he is not doing his job to satisfaction, we should be allowed to point this out. After all, it is our right to disagree with his policies. That is why there are opinion polls and letters to the editor.

Well, I'm actually going to agree with you on the second part of your question. You can dislike Bush and support America and the troops.

There are a growing number of conservatives that don't support Bush... but love America just the same.

I know a handful of conservatives that do not "like" Bush, but he is our war president right now. Many people can dislike him, but he is still in power now. His ratings have dropped lower and lower, while many people liked him at one point.

I think less and less, people are making the connection that you have to support Bush to support our country. Most people that still make the connection are just afraid to admit they were wrong to vote for him, or just too oblivious to realize it.

In defense of the dreaded group called the conservatives (although I am not), they don't all support Bush, and we all need to move on from the endless arguments about the policies of just one man, when there are many, many other representatives of this country.

I didn't vote for him.

That's exactly right....however, so many liberals who hate Bush hate everything he does. It doesn't sound very supportive of the troops, in my opinion, when the focus is on only the bad things that happen by them being there. As I've said before, it's sad that nobody likes to point out the good they are doing/have done because that might accidentally give Bush a little credit....

Ahhhh Neo-Conservatives are soo delusional.

Upholding and supporting the Constitution of the United States of America and participating in open debates and sharing ones opinions is what being American is all about. Having the freedom to express oneself without the fear of persecution.

In other words, those who believe that disagreeing or even hating bush makes you hate American and be in cahoots with the enemy are themselves being un-American. As they're going against the US constitution, singling out others based on their beliefs just like the Russians and Germans did and pretty much acting like a bunch of Authoritarian Dictators.

You can support or disagree with the President and have your reasons for doing so. You can share them in public and participate in discussions and arguments. It is your right to do so.

These are the rights that many Americans fought for in WW2. To deny these rights is to not only be un-American but also to end up not supporting your troops and your veterans.

Love or Hate Bush... to each his/her own. Stop labelling people as being un-American you neo-Conservative dingbats!

You are absolutely correct. No where in our Constitution, or in the philosophy of the founding fathers is there any explicit or implicit notion expressed that conformity to a Commander and Chief’s war actions or foreign policy is a litmus test for patriotism. The idea that disagreement with a head of state is synonymous with the hatred of ones country is one only entertained by fascists or any one with leanings towards dictatorial rule. Given this, it is no wonder so many Republicans, though not all, espouse this conformist view. After all, many Republicans are closet tyrants.

What puzzles most of us is this HATE thing. Why can you not disagree with someone without hating them? I have read some of the most hate-filled things on this site directed towards the President of the United States that make me ashamed of my fellow Americans. They've questioned his intentions, his marraige, his education, his morality and even his sexuality. So many think that they are being clever but they're not. Thay are just hateful, and hate diminishes a person. What's worse is that it encourages thos who wish us harm. It's OK to disagree but back the heck off the hate switch for a while.

Right. Not supporting Bush only means that you don't think he's making our country better. Americans from every party have good intentions, they're just based too much on belief. Politics are open to interpretation and that means that people will feel differently forever. But it's turned into a civil war because why compromise, when you know YOU'RE right? That's why I don't affiliate myself with any political party, it closes the mind.
