Edward Norton is a real magician, in that watching him in this remarkable film, you believe he is providing the most amazing illusions you may ever see, given the time, period, place, portrayed. This is old Vienna, late 19th. century. Along for one hell of a ride are Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel & Rufus Sewell. The performances are all just remarkable. The period is so well invoked. The cinematography is really good. And the story, yes we have a real, well written story, a plot, with twists, turns, surprises, something too many films these days seem to not have! Here, you don't want to leave, and is the end fair? You betcha it is. Clues abound folks. Nothing really is what it seems. And you should have know this from the very beginning. What a GREAT film to end the summer on. I want to see it again. Oscar may well play a role in this films future. It really is that good.

We saw when it first came out and had not heard much about it beforehand. We're avid moviegoers who at that time were about to lose faith in the movie industry after seeing about 6 duds in a row.
What a surprise! THE ILLUSIONIST is the best movie we've seen in years!! Can't tell you much about it or we might spoil it for you.
On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 20!! So, run, don't walk to your nearest video store and rent it this weekend!

Just watched it last night. I would rate it 7.5 out of 10. The supporting cast fit and played their roles perfectly. I am a fan of Edward Norton but thought his character and acting was a little weak - more due to the character than his ability.
I was disappointed by the bonuses on the DVD - I really wanted more when the feature was over.

Not too bad, good period piece. A little predicable, but entertaining none the less. I was caught up in the same 'how the @#$% did he do that" that gripped his audiences. Had a little for both chick and guys, so perhaps a good date movie...
Good rental for sure, enjoy.

I liked it very much. It was a bit predictable, yes, but it was harder for me to predict than "the Prestige." I could tell what was happening before they ever told us in that one. Besides, this one has Paul Giamatti in it, and I love his acting. Everything I've ever seen him in, I've loved him. So, for him alone, I'd go see it.

It was very predictable and took a long time to develop. Instead I would suggest watching "The Prestige" instead. Its the same kind of movie but much better.
