I don't drink, but I know that a "tom collins" is a cocktail. How common is it? How much would my son get teased for sharing his name with an alchoholic drink?

A Tom Collins isn't a favorite with young people! He may get some flack as an adult! If you love the name Thomas don't ever call him Tom! People won't be so quick to make the connection. Also, depending on the middle name,( for example Thomas Jacob or Charles) you can always call him TJ or TC ya know! Hey! When you add Collins to either one of those names, to me they sound like future best selling writers! Pretty cool huh! Good luck!

It could go on both side of the tracksl some may tease him, while on the other hand; some'll think he's got a cool name. What I would do is give him a middle name that causes you to call him - oh off the top of my head Thomas Jason Collins so you can call him TJ for short. On all of his legal papers he'll be writing Thomas Jason Collins with a "TJ" and things should be fine.

Tom Collins is a pretty popular alcoholic drink. Would you be calling him Tom or Thomas? If you always called him Thomas people probably wouldn't think of the connection as much.

It is a beautiful name that just happens to be a drink as well. If you truly love the name, go for it. If you only kinda like the name I would probably pass on it.

Good luck!

I like it, but that is also the name of a character in "Rent." But seriously, I have been bar tending for 8 years, and I can't remember one person EVER ordering a Tom Collins. I wouldn't even remember how to make it (although I think it is gin)

It might be okay when hes little. Or maybe his teachers someday will think that you are an alcoholic haha, or when he gets to college he'll have a predisposition to drink lots of tom collins'. Ehhhhh, try to avoid Thomas

I personally love the name Thomas, sounds so distinguishing. My mothers family were Collins...
How about Thomas Michael, or maybe make Thomas his middle name??

I went to high school with Tom Collins. People thought it was funny but didn't really 'tease' him.

He did drink a lot though. (really)

If you like the name, I say go for it. I like the name personally. Most kids don't know the names of drinks so who would tease him? Maybe in college or after wards and by then it's not really funny.

Your son would get teased a lot. As the parent, you have the right to name the child as you choose, but you are setting him up for jokes at all ages of his life.

I didnt even know the connection until i read what someone else wrote. Why would anyone tease him for being named after an alcoholic drink? they would probably be like "cool mannn" or whatever kids say these days.
