I'm love you people so much. For helping me out so much. I will be sure to get an A or a B+ Thanks so much. And for the people “who called me Michael Collins and Paddy “indignity on you. It was more than ignominy. You would not talk to any off your own people like that you make a fool of your self .

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989) and the 33rd Governor of California (1967–1975). At age 69, he was the oldest man ever to be elected President of the United States. Before entering politics, Reagan was a successful Hollywood and television actor, head of the Screen Actors Guild, and a spokesman for General Electric. He was a prominent New Dealer in the 1940s but by 1960 Reagan became staunch conservative and advocate of free markets. He strongly opposed communism and socialism, and as president he pursued policies for fewer regulations, lower taxes, free trade agreements and welfare reform.

Accomplishements in Office

Ronald Reagan's Presidency was dominated by two major themes, the first that the United States needed to compete vigorously with the Soviet Union throughout the world. That it had to resist Soviet advances, and build up its own defenses. He strongly advocated the development of the Strategic Defense Initiative, that was designed to provide a missile defense from an attack. Reagan other theme was that less government was best.

Reagan successfully led the United States to a massive armaments program. A program that was probably responsible to the Soviets decision that they could no longer afford to compete, and in fact were falling far behind. Thus, Perestroika was born and with it the Soviet Union drifted to dissolution.

The key points are:

"The Evil Empire" - Reagan's term for the Soviet Union & Warsaw Pact. He changed basic Western Cold War Strategy from trying to maintain balance to trying to gain superiority over the Communists. His policy was a main contribuition in the collapse of the Soviet Block as their economies could not keep up with the massive spending he forced on them.

"Trickle Down Economics" - An ill named economic policy which basically meant that by reducing taxes and easing burdens on businesses and relatively wealthy entrepenuers investment, jobs, and a strong economy would follow. The name of the policy is gone, but it remains central to the view of many in the US Republican Party.

"Iran-Contra" - The term for a scandal caused by a US plan to secure the release of American hostages held by terrorists in the Middle East. Using the "Contra Program" (a covert support program for anti-communists in Nicaraugua) money & arms were channeled through Israel & Iran to secure the release of the hostages.

For the most part the '80s in the US will be remembered for Reagan and good economic circumstances.

there are a couple of things you should definitely include in your paper- but you should check out Wikipedia and just google him to make sure your facts are correct. here is a short list: he was an actor, was married 2x, the second time to Nancy. he was Governor before he was president, he was a patsy for the GOP, who had been grooming him to be the president for several years and cemented his good reputation in the White House via the Iran Hostage crisis (he "let them go"). he was crucial in ruining the American economy through a wasteful overspending decade that we call the 80's, he was responsible for the rich getting rich and poor getting poorer at this time by ingraining a sense of absolute consumerism in the minds of the American people. his wife Nancy started the crazy, overzealous DARE program to get kids off of drugs- which statistically only increased kids curiosity in drugs and doing drugs. he also "helped" tear down the Berlin Wall" by promoting a Westernized version of "glasnost" and in turn did actually improve Americas relationship with Russia.
because he was one of the oldest presidents to ever serve in office, when his presidency was over, he soon became very ill with dementia/Alzheimer’ and was not seen for the last decade of his life due to his bad health. He was pretty mediocre president all in all, took credit for a lot of things that were already in place (Iran, Berlin wall)but lots of people still love him and think what he did for our country was great. In fact some people want to put his picture on our .10 coin, which is absurd.

"Mr. Gorbachov, tear down this wall" -- that's famous.

He also claimed Jimmy Carter's work on releasing the Iranian hostages.

As someone born in 1971, in a very poor, rural region: his administration made it so that "ketchup" or catsup was declared a vegetable. So, my entire school system stopped feeding us a fruit and a vegetable every day. We got a piece of fish on Fridays or a sandwich the other days, milk, and a huge vat of ketchup. In other words, he saved money for the nation by starving the poor kids. More affluent areas kicked in local funds to ensure their kids got nutritious meals. My area wasn't being cruel -- they didn't have the extra funds to make up for the national gov't cutting funds.

The other biggest one that affects us all today is the release program. To cut taxes (save gov't spending), his administration released people in mental hospitals. The friend of a friend was shot dead by one such "releasee" the week of his release. So, mentally ill people were turned out. Most of them became "homeless people" or committed crimes (such as the one I know) and were put in prison.

He was a charismatic speaker and watching any recordings of his speeches will probably show him as affable and "no nonsense." It was a great idea to have an actor "deliver message." IMO Someone to use as a model speaker (not a model Pres.)

I don't have the dates, but you can find the years that these events occurred by looking on the Internet under "Ronald Reagan" without the quotes. President Ronald Wilson Reagan was a movie actor. Later on, he ran for Governor of California and was elected. After being elected governor of California, he ran for President of the United States and lost. He ran on the Democratic ticket. The next time that he ran for President, he ran on the Republican ticket and won. This was 1980. He ran against President Jimmy Carter. President Reagan served two terms of 4 years apiece. He was shot and nearly killed. The man who did this was John Hinkley. A few years after serving as President, he developed Alheimer's Disease. He died a few years ago. His wife Nancy and his children survive him.

He got his start in Hollywood, on a show called "Bed Time for Bonzo", about Ronald and his per chimpanzee.

From there he bacame governor of California, then president of US.

He was right in the middle of the Red Scare, so he focused on missile defense and "space warfare" projects that included satelite controled weapons. His wife Nancy was severely anorexic. She started DARE (drug awareness for kids). He loved jelly belly jelly beans and citizens would send him so many that there was actually a room at th white house that stored jelly beans. He was very much in love with his wife and there was a book published that had a collection of his love letters to Nancy. They were really sweet, thoughtful letters. His biggest blunder was the Iran Contra Affair. You'll have to google that to learn more. good luck

Well : Reagan's catch phrase.

He was suffering from senility on his second term and the country stood by and did nothing.

He was a governor before he was a president.

He was an actor before he was a governor.

His wife's name is Nancy.

He spanked (the F14 Tomcat pilots) Kwadfi (sp?) pretty hard when Libya decided to call part of the sea nearby theirs.

He helped the Afghans against Russia's invasion (ala Osama and his people were trained by the US military thanks to Ron the dipwad)

He was a bumbling idiot like our current president during debates.

That about sums it up from me.
