I've had it done a number of times. It's unpleasant, but not painful. For each sample taken there is a pinch, you feel it but I wouldn't call it pain.
Some doctors or technicians are more gentle than others. I've had both. Don't worry about it, it's not that bad.

If you see he played linebacker for his college, RUN! His hands and fingers are huge!

I haven't had a biopsy, but have had the 'finger probe' done. He put one hand on my shoulder and inserted the other finger to check for polyps. I didn't scream until I realized he had BOTH hands on my shoulders!

NOT FUN!! Ask for mild general anesthesia, not just a local anesthetic. Be prepared to have your prostate be very angry with you for a couple of weeks

It's not quite painful, but it won't be your happiest afternoon. You should be aware that you will be bleeding for a few weeks afterwards.
