Kansas is a great place to raise a family, your neighbors will help you and are friendly, and red meat is delicious there. If you are into theatre and mountains or oceans, it is not the place to go.

Personally, I like Kansas, and we wouldn't be able to eat if we didn't have states like Kansas.

The words from the song "Matthew" come to mind:

Joy was just a thing that he was raised on
Love was just a way to live and die
Gold was just a windy Kansas wheat field
Blue was just a Kansas summer sky

For sure, KC has some of the world's best BBQ. I lived in Johnson County, KS for a couple years while working in KC and thought it was great! Good food/entertainment/cultural experiences nearby, friendly people, and a pleasant neighborhood to call home.

I only left because of a job transfer. Don't have much experience with the rest of the state except for traveling through it by car a number of times.

Sucks. I was born here and left...had to come back...escaped again and damned if I didn't end up here again. Guess I'll die here.
