Working in the education field, I see more and more grandparents raising the children of today. Why do you think that is? I have my own theory but would like to hear yours. Thanks.

It is a collapse of the family system... in the 50's 60's single parent homes were few... less than 5% and now it is over 50%. Gender role reversals and loose morals have people dropping babies like snapping their fingers with no planning and no conscience. Many that DO mean well are utterly incapable of caring for themselves let alone a dependent. The grandparents step in to pick up the pieces.

Some say it is because the parent that is having the child is to young to raise the child. In other instances it may be because the said parents are unfit or unable to raise there children. One grandparent I know who is raising her daughters children, 3 of them is doing so because the daughter got into trouble and was placed in prison for a few years. The system would rather place children with grandparents if they are able , rather than a foster care program. The adjustments for the child are less stressful. All I can say to you; Thank Goodness For Grandparents.

I think more and more people are still caught up by the romantic idea of settling down with a partner and raising a family then when they have the children, the reality hits them of how time-consuming it actually is to raise children. They don't want to give up their careers and other activities and they leave that burdon (not to say children are a burdon - don't take me wrong) of child rearing to the grandparents who step in because they have more time to spend with the children.
I have also known a lot of parents who push their adult children into giving them grandkids and that may have something to do with this trend.

Usually raise their kids babies because they are unfit or too young to raise them. In other races (Black inner city) the parents might be victims of a violent crime. Living the Dream!!! Baby, no marriage, no job, killed early. Tupak is Alive!

Other than for a good reason, it is because they failed to teach their child moral values and responsibility – and probably set the example.

simple enough... many did not raise their children properly... and society dose not support those who do.
