If you've already read Nicholas Sparks and liked his books, then also try "A Walk To Remember".
A good background book for The Anne Frank Diary is "Anne Frank Remembered: The Story of Miep Gies". Another good book about the Holocaust is "The Girl In the Red Coat" by Roma Ligocka, I think it's mentioned in the book that she is the cousin of Roman Polanski.
Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl Trilogy isn't bad either.

You find short descriptions for all book on amazon.com

Enjoy reading!

I just read a pretty good book called Hawksong by Ameila Atwater-Rhodes. It's a first book in it's series.

other books you may like The Messenger by Lois Lowry which is also part of the same world as the Giver and Gathering Blue.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is also a good book been a while since I read it but i was around that age when i did.

I'd recommend getting your teeth into a bit of Bronte. You could try Charlotte Bronte's "Jayne Eyre" or Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights". For a slightly more modern read but still a classic is "The catcher in the rye" By J.D Salinger (i think). That's a real eye opener.

An awesome book that is not quite in the same category as those, but I rate it even higher, is Beau Geste by P.C. Wren... it's one of the most incredible books I've ever read, and I think it'd go over REALLY well for school!!

If you have read those books, you could read Romeo an Juliet. It is a bit harder to understand, but it is fun once you get used to reading it. (I am in 8th grade)
