The doc says 8 months but my friends and family say 6 months or when they can sit up. My kid HATES baby food and I think he might like something a bit more substantive. Your thoughts...

If he has a couple of teeth and can pick things up on his own, give him the Cheerios. (Just the plain ones though.) As long as you or dad is sitting with him when he's eating them. He's getting to the age where he likes to pick things up for himself, so if the Cheerios work for him, try giving him small pieces of banana also, then move on to other foods. Most kids hate baby food, and you can change the textures of the foods as he shows you he's ready. (I know of 9 month olds who eat macaroni and cooked peas, but 11 month olds who gag on applesauce.) Sounds like your son will be the one who wants a steak for his birthday dinner. =)

No not at all! I have two little ones myself and I started them on infant cereal at 3 months, cause they were just never satisfied. So by the time they were 6 months they were eating all kinds of cereal. But if your concerned try Gerber fruit puffs or veggie puffs they desolve right in their mouth! Dont worry too much let your instincts take over! God Bless!!

Babies are all so different. Try giving him a cheerio and see what happens. You could break it up if you think it is too big also. My kids love Baby Mum-Mum's. They are rice husks and they literally melt in your mouth. I gave the kids those before Cheerios. Just a suggestion!

As long as you're watching him good and he's able to self feed, sure, let him try. I didn't know my baby (now 11 months old) liked them until I saw him eating them at daycare. He hates me feeding him. There is also little baby snacks that melt in the mouth pretty quick and they taste pretty good too. Even my 6 year olds like them.

i was too pararnoid to give my daughter cheeros so i bought puffs by gerber. they come in a few different tastes and they dissolve easier. i am not saying that you shouldn't give your baby cheerios at all i am just saying that the food i mentioned is just a little bit easier for a baby to eat.

No. You can start but keep a close eye.
They say they should have the 'pincer' grasp first but mine didn't, she scooped and ate. It was hard at first for her to get it into her mouth but she got better at it first. It is great for fine motor skills. She eats real food MUCH better than baby food.

I started my daughter about then. The gerber puffs might be better because they disolve quickly and are flavored. My baby LOVES them. (Walmart has generic one that are a tad cheaper).

He is your child and you need to be comfortable. And if you are then cheerios is not a problem. They also now make really good finger foods by Gerber that dissolve in their mouths so you don't have to worry about them choking.

He should be fine with cheerios, I don't know how many teeth he has at this point but as long as they are soft enough for him to chew they won't hurt him. (if he picks them up and feeds himself make sure he doesn't cram them in, my son liked to do that)
Good Luck!

My pediatrician said not until the age of one. I am a paranoid mother so I used Gerber poofs. They are great, they dissolve right in your mouth.

Mom tells me I was eating mashed potatoes and stuff at 6 months. I think I turned out ok.
