I know what you mean GG. It can be hard to decide wether to answer and help the questioner understand his (it's nearly always a 'he') misunderstandings. Or just leave him alone with his ignorance. Some of them of course, are just trying to wind us up.

It all depends on the spirit in which the question is asked. You can usually tell when someone is being an idiot and when they genuinely just don't know by the way they word their questions.
The question "Do black people tan" may seem like a dumb question to black people because we already know the answer, but since it's not usually a general topic of conversation in mixed company, how else would anyone know?
I'll bet they wonder how we get our hair straight too (SMILE) though no one has ever asked me if they could touch it.
As far as the name business, McNabb can be both a slave-name and an Irish name and a lot of non-black people really don't think about how we wind up with the names we have...it's not something they have to think about, is it?
So maybe a little tolerance is in order when trying to decide if a question is being asked maliciously or not.

I can totally see were your coming from on this subject . I think we should always try to educate people on race issues as it's the only way that it may eventually be stamped out .Ignorance is lethal we need to educate people with hard correct facts rather then allow them to continue on this path of racism that they may of learnt as children.I have always treated people regardless or race colour etc as i would like them to treat me . Unfortunately growing up as a child in a very white culture I never met anyone other then a white person till i was 8 . I was slightly afraid .. why !!because i thought they had fallen in to my coal shed at home very stupid and ridiculous i know but i had never seen a black person before .Ignorance as a child can be corrected . Ignorance as an adult will take longer .

Actually, I find it funny most of the time and somewhat irritating otherwise. But generally, it does not get to me.
You see, when you allow what other people say to condition your thinking, they hold sway over you. I cannot do that! I have always been too proud of myself and happy with myself to get into such a state of frustration.

Actually, Im more irritated by ignorant bigotted ppl calling anyone who mentions race issues bigotted and ignorant.
Never have any 2 words being so cliched without any thought behind them.
I want to say what i want about anything i want without some silly student ,without an iota of worldliness or historical knowledge telling me im racist or ignorant.

Sometimes I answer, sometimes not (always gets a thumbs down). It depends on my mood. I do get a bit fed up of all the racist twaddle that people come out with.

A lot of people are very stupid... educating them will make little difference if they are bigoted and dumb in the first place, unfortunately.
