This question is yet to be difficult to be answered off.
I may tell ya at first some funny things,
1.Apple IPOD cannot play the WM DRM songs while it can play the AAC DRM protected songs
2. Zune can play the WM DRM songs while it cannot play the AAC DRM songs!
Okay, zune has some new features,
it has better display quality[like creative ZEN vision M] to watch videos then IPOD.
It adds an FM Transmitter and Wifi,
but consider this, song transfer could be done from an zune to another but the transferred songs will last for three days,is it logical!
The Zune was the second most sold player during the launch week (first four days). Microsoft captured a 9% unit share and a 13% dollar share (total cash spent) in the portable media device space, but still lagged far behind the market-leading iPod's 63% and 72.5% respectively These numbers don't include sales from Apple retail stores, which sell only iPod players. However, as MP3 Newswire recorded, the initial release of Zune was met with mostly consumer indifference. Sales weren't terrible, but the heavy marketing failed to launch Zune as a genuine threat to the iPod's dominance. A survey of 40 retailers conducted by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster found only 8% of the sales people recommended Zune compared to 75% recommendation for Apple iPod, and that most of the sales people did not even know what Zune was or who made it.
In the second week Zune was the 5th most sold player, with a 2.1% market share, according to the market research firm NPD Group. The figures do not include iPods sold directly from Apple. Sales relative to other MP3 players continue to decline, with NPD placing its market share at 1.9% by the second week of December 2006.
According to Amazon.com sales charts the position in the market declined rapidly soon after the opening week. The most popular Zune model (the black one) is also behind a number of SanDisk, iRiver, Creative, and other manufacturers' devices .
So what I say:stay on apples ipod[i cud not recommend zen as the asker wanted a comparison between these two players but it is good as my two fellow suggested it on the first two answers]
let the zune to be truly well riched and then ya can go for a zune.

The Zune is a joke, stay away from it.
It's WiFi transfer "feature" is limited to 3 plays or 3 days, whichever comes first and its DRM violates the Creative Commons license. The WiFi "feature" can't be used for anything else, such as wireless syncing.
It can't be used as a hard drive mass storage device, as can be done with every other player out there.
It has a bigger screen than does an iPod, however, it has the same resolution, making it look worse.
You have to buy prepaid "points" in order to buy songs from the Zune store. The Zune store does not yet have video.
It doesn't play Microsoft's own PlaysForSure files, so music purchased from Yahoo Music or any other music store won't work. The Zune Player (which you must use) only plays its own proprietary format and mp3's. Microsoft is using misleading advertising regarding iTunes conversion. They make it sound like the Zune Player will convert existing iTunes to its own format automatically...it won't. You have to burn your iTunes music to a CD, then rip that music back to your hard drive again in either Zune's format, WMA format or in the mp3 format. If you do that, however, the sound quality of your music will degrade because both Zune's format, WMA and mp3's are what's called “lossy compression”. In this case you have an already compressed file being compressed again, resulting in terrible sound quality.
The Zune is really just a Toshiba Gigabeat (Toshiba makes it for Microsoft) with WiFi, but it costs more than a Gigabeat and has limitations that the Gigabeat doesn't have.
It's extremely buggy and people have had nothing but problems installing its software.
It doesn't work with Firefox or Windows Media Player. You must use the much inferior Zune Player.
It only comes in three colors: White, Black and ummmm....errr.....Brown?
Lastly, Microsoft caved in to the music industry demands for a piece of every Zune sold because the music industry views mp3 players as theft devices, thus empowering the RIAA. (Recording Industry Artists Association)
But hey, don't take my word for it...see below:

Just say no to the Zune, either wait for Apple to update the video iPod or take a look at the Archos 604 or Creative's Zen Vision (either “M” or “W”) line instead.

ipods are better. The ipod nano only costs 100 US dollars and is small and easy to carry around. The new generation ipod comes in colors. They can store photos, songs, and games. They come with a pouch to put in. The sound is really good. You can even download music on it from your fav cds. They have a nice price. On the ipod nano you can store 1000 songs, games and also photos.. I have and ipod nano and am very happy with it.You can listen to it for bout 14 hours and then put it for charging only for four hrs. It comes with the charging cord which you have to plug in the computer to charge it. Best of luck!I am sure you will like the ipod.
