Change the gearing ratios, install a turbocharger, remove the catalytic converters. Check with BMW aftermarket tuners like Dinan.

The best way to accelerate faster is to bump up HP. Second best is to shed weight wherever possible by replacing metal with CF stuff, throw out the passenger seat, etc. That's more of an inconvenience, so boosting HP is good.
Stock horsepower for the E36 325i with M50 2.5 liter engine is 189 hp.
Nitrous can be hazardous to your engine if the programming isn't done right to the chip - oh, yes, you'd definitely want to make sure that's done right.
Try this: Stage 1 Bolt on "Ready to run" 6.0 psi VF-Engineering supercharger system. With the kit, you're at 297 hp. That's 50% more power. $4500 plus labor.
Also, try Dinan, but they're more money. Check the BMW forums if you're serious: bimmerforums, bimmerfest, etc. There's lots of discussion about forced induction.

make sure your tyres arent too big, about 17" is perfect because the bigger you go the more you take away from acceleration. give your airfilter a very good clean. put in new spark plugs and line the gap of the spark plug up with the inlet, the engine will burn much better. drain your coolant an put the mix at 30%coolant 70% water, it cools faster so drains less power. take all unnecessary weight out of the car. tighten your accelerator so there is no slack bit at the start of it (but not too much it will cause the car to start reving without you doing anything), run a few tankfulls of petrol with a octane booster that is a engine cleaner too. do all these cheap and easy things and i can guarantee you will feel a difference.

Don't put a switch on the alternator it's a stupid idea and won't make a blind bit of difference as the belt and alternator will still be turned by the engine, also you'll drain your battery as the electrical system will have to get power from somewhere. The intercooler is out as well unless you have a turbo.
The easiest route is usually Air filter,Exhaust, chip. After that some head work then things start to really expensive.

First off, change your exhaust system to a hi-performance hi-flow system. Then, look into a different rear differential. Most of the 325's have a conservative(2.73 ratio) rear end, and you can find diffs from other BMW's with 3.30-3.75 range of ratios that will significantly increase your acceleration, but your top speed and gas milage will suffer. Also put on a hi-flow/cold air intake and filter.

you could buy a switch to deactivate the alternator when youre driving - this will help.
Keep the aircon switched off.
Buy a fuel additive that cleans the injection system.
Get a large bore exhaust
Buy an intercooler
Decrease weight of the car. you can remove the spare tyre if you want.

Use the highest octain gas you can get. Get a cold air intake kit.
After that your getting into some expence. A light fly wheel. 4.10 rear end etc... will also get you going faster but can be lots of cash to buy and install.

Install a NOS kit. They make several different bolt-ons for fuel injected cars and I am sure that you can get one for the 325i.
