This is a book of historical fiction about a family with the last name of Field. The main character is a girl with the very patriotic first name of Constitution, called Connie. At some point she visits her brother in New Orleans. His name is something like Jed or Jeb, and his wife I believe is named Stacie. Connie is very independent and works her way through college. She also visits three cousins, whose names are Faith, Hope and Charity. Connie falls in love with an Irish immigrant, Seumas McSeumas, who works for her father. The last line of the book is "And here's mine, with my heart on it." I have been trying to remember either the name of this book or the author for months and would greatly appreciate any help from someone else who has read it.

I read this in high school! Grrr. I have a feeling that maybe this was a short story and not a novel since none of us can find it.
