is there a reason you and him cannot talk or be friends ?
if you dont want to communicate with him, then just dont.
you can use your " privacey options " to appear online only to those in your friends lists.
you can put his email address on block so anything he sends you doesnt get thru to your email account.
there are alot of things you can do to avoid hearing from him if you truely dont want communication.
or, you can communicate with him, the choice is yours.
As for " set-backs-to-old-ways" only you have control over yourself. you are going to go up and down with your emotions from time to time, thats normal,
I dont know what your situation was with your ex. so I cant give too much advice but I can tell you this :
relationships can be complicated, and sometimes breakingup can be just as complicated.
just because a relationship ends, doesnt mean all feelings are gone with the relationship. It takes time to heal.
Its not a cure-all, but it sounds like your feeling down in the dumps, and maybe you need to get together with some friends and have fun. so let yourself .

your "old ways" re-emerging are probably a result of the fact that you haven't completely let go of this ex. the best way to let go of someone is to block them out of your life completely so that they can never trigger your "old ways" behavior again.

I'd cut all ties, wish him the best and move on. It's not worth it if you are not happy.
