I don't think there's any uniform message to their music. But predominate themes are despair about humanity, the difficulties of love, and the struggle for self realization.

i don't think goths are concerned about what the world sees, they expect to be misunderstood anyway...goths are generally depressed and angry people...their music reflects this...it also reflects their general love of death, vampires and other "dark" topics...their music may be dark, hard or angry, or sad, slow and melancholy

some of it expects the listener to be on hallucinogens and thus the full experience of this music is largely unknown to outsiders
