..about as many as were students who could find Afghanistan on a map when Bush waged war there. About 2 percent. But don't blame the students. Ask them to show you their curriculum, including private and parochial schools. Some of the teachers don't even know.
All of that money in Iraq,,,and the best Bush can do is to come up with some useless No Child Left Behind legislation which means absolutely nothing if you are NOT being taught needed material.

Well, according to a recent National Geographic survey, 1/3 of Americans between 18 and 24 can't even find Louisiana on a map - 90% can't find Afghanistan. So I would say maybe 9%. Maybe.
Just makes ya proud of our educational system, doesn't it? (sarcasm for the challenged out there)
Stephanie, I am calling BS on your comments about NCLB. Bush is TRYING to fix our educational system. Yeah, what a bastard - actually expecting teachers to be well qualified. We have way too many kids finishing school who are functionally illiterate. How is that Bush's fault? He's only been in office for six years. The problem with our schools is the LIBERALS. Our kids can't read or write, but gee...they feel *so* good about themselves....makes me sick.

I'd say about 60% of adults could. The remaining 40% only care about what's going on with American Idol, Desperate Housewives, or the point spread on the football game.
The fact that these people vote in elections without any clue as to what's going on, utterly terrifies me.

In light of current events, I'd say about 70%. All you have to do is watch the news, they like to bring a map up whenever talking about it.

When I was in third grade I asked a boy where he was from, and he said Denmark. I asked him where it was, and he showed me on a map. Then he asked me where I am from, and I said Palestine. He asked me where it was, and I told him that it's on the map. He said that when he got home he'll look for it. But he came back to school and said it wasn't there. And I told him, no it's there in the middle east. Look again. And he came back to school and said that my country is not there. I was pretty peeved and got out a map, pointed to my country...but instead saw the word Israel instead of Palestine....that was a sad day.

Well I would think a large part of school children couldnt, which would be surprising given how well the Presidents "No child left behind" act worked its wonders on our public school system.

as far as the Presidents new plan.. I don't think he understands it.. so how can anyone else?... as for Iraq... i'd say 10% can point right to it.. 30% can get pretty close.. .. 60% can hit the right region... and the final 40% may as well be pointing at Europe.

probably about 30%, or less. i dont know now though. with teachers indoctrinating students in schools these days, they probably talk about it a lot. so, probably more kids than adults know where it is. besides in a war, its talked about a lot.
