My friend and I want to go out for our birthdays, I will be 40, and she will be 50. We live in Texas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. We don't want to spend alot of money, but we want it to be a nice place. Any ideas?

Wow, there are so many places to choose from. It really depends on what type of cuisine you're in the mood for.

If you like Italian, Prego Pasta House is excellent and has a low key atmosphere:

If you want something a little different, The Melting Pot or Simply Fondue is a lot of fun and has a very private atmosphere:

If you like something more traditional, St. Martin's on Lower Greenville is very nice:

If you like something a little more modern, Maguire's Regional Cuisine is one of my favorites:

If you like steak, Saltgrass Steakhouse has great food and reasonable prices:

Benihana's Japanese hibachi is always a great time with great food:

Honestly though, if it was me, I'd throw price to the wind and go to Three Forks. It's pricey but worth EVERY penny. Tell them it's a milestone birthday for both of you and I'm sure they'll give you a free appetizer or dessert.

Very Happy Birthday to you both! Have fun and enjoy!

Tres Meridas in Frisco, by the StoneBriar mall.

It's really quite unique and the mojitos are kick a$$.

Someone mentioned St. Martin's Wine Bistro. Loved it, but it was a little romantic if you are just friends and not more.

Chuy's on Knox/Henderson is so much fun. It's really good Mexican food and the atmosphere is a blast.

The Keg Steakhouse in Plano - by WillowBend mall gives a free meal on the day of your birthday (if you register with their birthday club).

Maggiano's is one of my favorite special occasion restaurants. They have one by Willow Bend and one by North Park. Just spectacular Italian food. Quite yummy.

Happy Birthday.

I had a great time at the Palm restaurant in Dallas. It's pricy but aren't you and your friend totally worth it? You're only 40 once!

Try the Green Room in Deep Ellum. They do a "wine me dine me" (basically a tasting menu) for something like 40. It's really incredible what you get for the price.
All I have to say is red hot chocolate cake is on the menu. :)

If you want to go somewhere inexpensive and fun, I would suggest Esparza's in Grapevine. They have good mexican food and the margaritas are great! Nice small quaint place but very lively in the evenings.

I would recommend Charlestons on Hulen st. It is very nice with low lit ambience and dark wood accents. So it looks very fancy but it is not too expensive. They have very good Prime Rib too. Hope that helps :)
