The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Really Start Your Own Business, Fourth Edition by David E. Gumpert
* How to Really Create a Successful Business Plan: Step-by-Step Guide by David E. Gumpert
* What No One Ever Tells You about Starting Your Own Business: Real-Life Start-Up Advice from 101 Successful Entrepreneurs (What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business) by Jan Norman
* Business Start-Up Kit by Steven D. Strauss
* Start Your Own Business (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Up) by Rieva Lesonsky

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I have one question for you to start with... what makes you want to become a Ltd company? It is much better to try out as a sole trader or LLP before moving onto something involving that much business knowledge.

I would advise you to begin as a sole trader;

Register the business name (your name t/a lalala) after 3 months

Work out what you estimate your profit and turnover to be in the first year of trading (up to april 2008)

Check the current levels for registering for VAT (I doubt you'd need to in the first year so don't make the mistake of doing it)

Do you have employees? If so register as an employer when you register your business. I'd try without employees if possible or hire them as self-employed contractors instead if possible within the inland revenue's description

After that just run your business for 6 months then review everything, especially accounts. Don't jump into too much advertising in the early days unless you have an excellent marketing knowledge. Other than that go to www.businesslink.co.uk

Find an attorney that does that work and discuss with them.
