so then i formatted the hard drive and got a boot disk direct from packard bell, pu the disk in did what it said but to no avail, it still keeps asking me for my boot disk does any one know how i resolve this problem

Well you have to load the actual programme, say Windows xp, the boot disk will only get the ball rolling, then if it won't take it and you still have the bsod it sounds like you hard drive is stuffed.

You will need to go into the bios and change the boot up order. Just hit delete or f1 during the bios boot and look for a menu to change boot order move up the cd rom to first boot.
