It's a stupid question I know but a friend at work brought it up and i'm convinced he's made it up. He couldn't remember the stars of the show or any other details. Please bear in mind that my friend has an over active imagination(drug related) and so it is quite possible that this show does not exist.
From what he said, the era of the show was around the time of The A-Team, Dempsey and Makepeace, Six Million Dollar Man, Cagney and Lacey etc.
Also, this show is probably American but it was shown in the UK.
If it helps, the star of the show wore black gloves(possibly)

OK I think your friend is remembering the movie Death Race 2000, made in 1975, where actor David Caradine drove as Transcontinental Racer Frankenstein with a fake right hand because it had a bomb implanted in it.
